Westminster House, Birkenhead

Positioned in the middle of Birkenhead town centre, Westminster House provides a fully air conditioned office space for Magenta Housing, the Wirral’s largest housing association.

The Project

Located between some of the Wirral’s finest listed buildings, Westminster House is a refurbished 4 storey office building. HE Simm undertook the Design and Build MEP services for this development which provides self-contained 24 hour functional offices. The building also houses an external car park and a welcoming reception area for the general public.

Project Objectives

Westminster House was a derelict building bought by Magenta Housing to accommodate all their staff in one fully air conditioned and contained building; Magenta’s staff had been spread over numerous building with different departments in old run-down buildings. The building, though existing, was fully refurbished internally and externally to look like a new development on completion.

Project Challenges

The main project challenge was the existing buildings used by Magenta all had fast diminishing rental agreements and the new building had to be ready for occupation before the initial programmed handover date. The new plantroom was installed on the roof, which in itself due to weather conditions proved very difficult to commence as program.

The Results

The project was completed in May 2013 ahead of program, fully commissioned and snag free. The outline of the building became Magenta’s new official logo.

Meet the Team

Sean Shaw, Site Supervisor

This was Sean’s first major management role within the company. He started as an apprentice in August 2004 and in a relatively short time has progressed to a site supervisor.
