The Project

Located on St Marys Road in the heart of the student quarter Liberty Point, the latest phase in Liberty Livings redevelopment of the site, provides bespoke student accommodation in the heart of the city centre. HE Simm undertook the Design and Build MEP services for this development which provides 240 beds in the form of studio apartments and ensuite bedrooms in clusters of 5-7 rooms; as well as a gym, study areas and an administration centre. HE Simms works include heating and cooling systems, mechanical ventilation, general and emergency lighting, small power, disabled alarms and emergency call system, CCTV systems, Audio visual, data, access controls, fire alarms and detection, water treatments, air conditioning, security systems, lightning protection, domestic hot and cold water systems, automatic controls, BMS systems, Equipotential bonding, specialist lighting, district heating main, and LV switchgear and distribution.

Project Challenges

Liberty Point Block A is the third of three blocks to be redeveloped on the site. Blocks B&C are fully occupied by students which means the installation within Block A has to be carried out with minimal disruption to the students living in the other blocks.

Alterations to the existing infrastructure need to be planned and coordinated with maximum accuracy to ensure the health safety and wellbeing of the students is maintained.

The service installation has been developed to utilise as much as the existing service penetrations as possible coordinated with Vinci to minimise structural reworks.

This project is still ongoing with completion scheduled for summer 2016
