Mind The Gap 1st Anniversary – HE Simm Share Platform with Government Ministers at House of Commons


On Monday 21/05/2018, HE Simm had the honour of being the only Specialist contractor invited to the House of Commons to speak at the Parliamentary launch of ‘Mind The Gap’.  Mind the Gap is an initiative developed by Be Onsite, a non-profit organisation, founded by our client Lendlease. The initiative is designed to provide opportunities to disadvantaged people and to address the skills gap in the construction industry.


The event was a monumental success, attended by 200 people and chaired by Paul King, Managing Director for Sustainability and External Affairs at Lendlease Europe.  The host for the evening was Tom Brake MP, with a keynote speech delivered by Rt Hon David Gauke, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.  The panel also comprised of RT Hon Anne Milton, Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills, representatives from Be Onsite, CITB and HE Simm HR Director Joe Carney.  However, most importantly, in attendance was Louis, a HE Simm employee who has successfully gained employment through the initiative.


Be Onsite undertake life changing work in communities that are affected by significant social issues, most notably unemployment and criminal re-offending.  They seek out individuals who may face barriers to employment such as disabilities or a criminal record, providing them with training, employment and support to reach their potential and establish and maintain a sustained career.


HE Simm are extremely proud of our relationship with Be Onsite and our continued, active participation in this scheme.  Via our work with Lendlease on Elephant Park, we have provided work and training opportunities to individuals, including ex-offenders from the local community of Southwark, who may have previously struggled to find employment.
