Career in the pipeline for local Newham man with HE Simm


HE Simm is constantly looking for ways to increase employment opportunities for local communities and have recently been working closely with Workplace, through Newham Council to offer work place experience to local people.

Afaque, a 33 year old Workplace member joined HE Simm on a paid 12 week placement on their Rathbone Market development in Canning Town, London. Due to his fantastic work ethic, proactive and friendly approach, he has now been employed on a full time basis.

“I did my part but without Workplace I wouldn’t be where I am today, through the scheme I have secured my dream job and it has made me realise what I want to do long term. Everyone at HE Simm have been great and have made me feel a part of the team. I am very grateful to Workplace and HE Simm for this fantastic opportunity, I cannot wait to continue my career with HE Simm.”

Since moving to the UK in 2007 from India, Afaque has worked in a range of jobs to further his career prospects and to provide for his young family. In 2015 he engaged with Workplace through his local council, they provided Afaque with training courses and job search support to improve his success in his career progression.

Afaque has been based on the Rathbone Market project in Canning Town since joining HE Simm, the development forms part of the massive regeneration plan for the area. HE Simm delivered Full MEP Fit Out and Shell and Core Services to the residential development alongside client John Sisk & Son.

Joe Carney, HR Director, HE Simm stated “We have now built a strong two way relationship with Workplace and we couldn’t be happier with Afaque, from day one he came in and wanted to learn and succeed, this proactive approach has gained him full time employment with ourselves. HE Simm is committed to providing long term opportunities for local people, we currently have a number of local initiatives across the Capital where we help individuals like Afaque into work placement and give them opportunities to boost their careers. Initiatives like these with Workplace and Newham Council are great as they provide opportunities to get local people into full time employment.”

Afaque is now on his journey to becoming a qualified plumber with the help of HE Simm and Workplace.
